It’s a sweet kind of music that the hammers, saws and drills are making as construction crews renovate Lund Family Center’s residential facility at 76 Glen Rd., Burlington. The facility, which houses the Residential Treatment Program, is undergoing a major overhaul and expansion in order to increase capacity and improve services for 30 pregnant and parenting women and their children.
VSECU recently donated $5,000 to the construction project, which will provide the center with 32,000 square feet of space for the residential program to treat substance abuse, educate and counsel. The credit union has also pledged $5,000 for 2008, bringing the total donation to $10,000.
“Because our focus at the credit union is to help individuals and families improve their lives,” said Yvonne Garand, VSECU’s business development officer, “we recognize the growing need for the kinds of advocacy and support services the caring staff at Lund Family Center provides for families. Therefore, we are very pleased to support their new housing facility for pregnant and parenting women. We hope our donation will further enable Lund Family Center to continue their valuable contributions to Vermont’s women, children and communities.”
Through its donation, the credit union seeks to help Lund Family Center continue its mission to help families with children, pregnant or parenting teens and young adults and adoptive families. As substance abuse and other challenges of families increase, the need for the kinds of treatment and counseling programs the center provides grows.
"The pressures facing Vermont families are greater than ever, and the demands for Lund Family Center's services have skyrocketed,” said Barbara Rachelson, executive director of Lund Family Center. "We are so grateful to VSECU for investing in our building project and increasing our capacity to serve families with young children! We are over halfway to our $6 million capital campaign goal. We thank VSECU for their leadership and hope that their gift will inspire other corporations and individuals to participate."
