Phishing Alert --> Scams Appearing To Be From CUNA / NCUA
A phishing scam, which originated in late spring '05, has over the last several weeks begun to resurface, and appears under several variants:
- Appearing to be from
"service@cuna.org" with a subject line of "FCU NOTICE: Important security update" or "Warning: Confirm Your Online Banking Records" (the latter subject line appearing in all caps)
- Appearing to be from
Credit Union National Association with a subject line of "IMPORTANT: CUNA Verification"
- Appearing to be from "F.C.U Security Service" with a subject line of "IMPORTANT: FCU Verification"
- (See an image for the full text of a phishing message.)
We urge you NOT to open or click on the link in the message of any of these phishing attempts. Instead, delete the message.
Details:
The latest fraudulent email asks for the recipient to click on a link to "restore my account access." The phishers even go to the length of including an
ID
case number in the body of the message to attempt to make the email seem legitimate.
Please note: The NCUA and CUNA will never send emails requesting your credit union username, password, pin number, or other personal identity information.
If you responded to such an email and provided any confidential account information, please notify us immediately of the scheme. If you ever question the reliability of an unsolicited email please call us directly.
