Student Loan Independence for Today (LIFT) is a program that helps ease the burden of monthly student loan payments for three Vermonters. Recipients were awarded $5,000 each, totaling $15,000 in repayment awards. This year’s applicants could apply for an award in one of three categories: Financial Literacy, Service to Vermonters or First Generation. Each award category has different criteria requirements and all VSECU members who met the criteria were encouraged to apply.
“Our Student LIFT program is designed to offset some of the stress associated with student loan debt. In doing so, we hope to empower our members to follow their dreams and enrich their lives,” said VSECU’s CEO Robert Miller. “We are proud to support Jennifer, Kristen, and Mariessa as they pursue their higher education aspirations. They are all impressive individuals who embody the spirt of Vermont and VSECU.”
Mariessa Dobrick, the Financial Literacy category recipient, was selected for her Financial Literacy Webquest entry, Jennifer O’Connor won for her exemplary record of Service to Vermonters, and Kristen Billings won in the First Generation category. Each was awarded $5,000 from this student loan repayment program. O’Connor, the Service to Vermonters recipient, expressed her gratitude by stating, “I am incredibly honored to receive the Student LIFT Service Award and truly appreciate the support and generosity of VSECU for selecting me. This financial “lift” is especially helpful as I continue my education in Physician Assistant School. Thank you!”
