Card skimmers are small devices that fraudsters place in the card reader of an ATM or gas pump. The skimmers read your card when you place it in the reader, capturing your information for fraudulent use.
According to our senior loss prevention specialist, Steve Timmons:
• Some skimmers can be seen, appearing slightly offset from the ATM itself
• Newer skimmers can fit inside the card reader
• If you notice anything unusual about an ATM or gas pump reader, let the branch manager or station attendant know or contact the local authorities
If you are concerned about skimming, keep an eye on your account to make sure there have been no unusual transactions. If you notice unusual activity in your VSECU account, contact us immediately.
