Julia Pipeling, a math teacher at the West Rutland School, was just formulating a vision for a financial literacy program when she brought a group of students to our Rutland branch for a presentation during Financial Literacy Month. She was impressed by the talk and was inspired to request financial support for a curriculum that would be used to launch financial literacy classes in the school.
VSECU’s donation of $1,125, will support the purchase of Foundations in Personal Finance by David Ramsey. The curriculum will assist in the development of unit plans to align lessons to maximize student learning. The school estimates that the curriculum will impact 10 to 14 Vermont students per year
“I’m incredibly grateful for the receipt of this donation,” says West Rutland School Principal Sarah Miller. “We have a talented math teacher, eager students and a supportive School Board who are excited this course will be offered at West Rutland School. This donation will help to ensure we have a rigorous, relevant curriculum to engage our learners in developing a greater understanding of personal finance.” Sarah Merrill
