VSECU donated to Rutland Country Child Parent Center (RCPCC), an organization that is dedicated to supporting the needs of children, youth, and families. The center works in the community, offering educational experiences that enhance the success of children and families in the community.
For this event, I attended a graduation ceremony for teen moms who dedicated themselves to earning their high school diplomas from various county schools. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house, from executive director Caprice Hoover to all of us in attendance.
It is hard enough for any student to stay committed and focused enough throughout their high school career to earn their degree, but when you are also trying to raise and support a child and possibly balance a job at a young age, it is particularly difficult. These girls have proven that it can be done.
The event was well attended by members of the girls’ families, their children, members of the community, and RCPCC staff and board members. Each girl who earned a diploma was presented with a bouquet, a mini scrapbook of her journey, and a goody bag of thoughtful items. Following the ceremony, attendees enjoyed a lunch and cake. It was a wonderful experience that I have enjoyed before and hope to continue enjoying in coming years.
