Samaritan House, Inc. provides emergency shelter and case management to homeless citizens in Franklin and Grand Isle Counties. Last year we had over 10,000 bed nights, which means if these guests were all served on one night it would have taken over 10,000 beds. This was a result of providing services to over 260 clients.
We also serve literally homeless people with showering and laundry services. They come in, shower and freshen up while we do their laundry. This assists many of these people with being able to work, look for a job, and maintain good hygiene; most importantly it makes them feel human.
Every night a person stays with our organization it costs $47.18. This year we have seen a dramatic increase in elderly clients who have less options for affordable options. One elderly client was with us nearly ten months at a cost of over $13,000!
We need your support to continue helping a population of working, retired, and disabled individuals and families regain housing independence and stability. It is nearly impossible to pay market value rent from a position which pays $15 an hour or from a disability stipend of less than $800 a month. Our clients are people who need a hand up, not a handout. We expect full participation from our clients in taking part of regaining their independence, saving 50% of all their income and complying with program guidelines. Our successes are from the hard work of those we help!
The additional help from We Care 2 would allow us to provide additional services to clients; repair, replace, or upgrade some fixtures; and purchase much-needed supplies.
