New Foundations is an innovative, residential program designed to provide educational and employment opportunities to low-income, single parents to enable them higher wages to support their families. NF’s goal is to move single parents from a life of poverty (oftentimes generational poverty) to a life of self-sufficiency and independence by giving them the tools they need to succeed.
While in the NF program, participants receive a furnished apartment for up to two years while they work on furthering their education and gaining employment to their maximum potential. With hard work on the part of the program participants and 1:1 guidance from our Program Manager, the end goal of this program is permanent housing, employment to one’s maximum potential, and being financially independent.
During this time, participants do not pay rent but they do pay into a savings account. NF participants work closely with a financial coach to establish and/or rebuild credit while in the program. Participants work on furthering their education with a technical program, certificate, or diploma.
The short-term change for NF participants is stable housing, advancing their education, increasing their earning potential and providing educational opportunities for their children. The long-term change for NF participants is a life free of public assistance, higher earning power, improved credit, financial literacy, and landlord references. Additionally, as participants move out of poverty and into financial independence, the generational poverty cycle will be broken.
One hundred percent of the We Care 2 donation would be used to support the New Foundations Program operation which includes Program Management and case work, building utilities that provide shelter to program participants.
