VSECU Supports Young Bakers

BARRE, Vt., December 18, 2013 – When the credit union VSECU needed 700 cookies to deliver to Realtor businesses around the state, the Barre Technical Center Bakeshop was the bakery of choice for VSECU.

Elizabeth LaPerle, a mortgage originator with VSECU, chose the bakery not only for the homemade goods but also to help support the young students enrolled in the bakeshop program. “This program gives students real life working experiences and helps them prepare for food service certification and enrollment in culinary schools. And on top of that the cookies were a hit!” said LaPerle.

Students attending The Barre Technical Center Bakeshop produce desserts for several local establishments as well as host a student driven bake sales every Friday. The students enrolled represent Central Vermont high schools; Spaulding High School, Union 32, Montpelier High School, Harwood Union High School, Cabot High School, Twinfield High School, Williamstown High School and home schooled students.
