Powering the creation of Burlington’s New Year’s Eve celebration
Burlington’s New Year’s Eve celebration bucks the trend of committee-designed events. Thanks to the Bright Idea Project and Highlight, the event is a community-produced experience that engages the imagination of some of the state’s most creative minds. The project results in a crowdsourced New Year’s Eve experience involving interactive events, immersive installations, and unforgettable performances dreamed up by the community, for the community.
Who it Helps:
Supporting creative Vermonters, the Bright Idea Project nurtures imagination and brings exciting ideas to life. It also provides a unique, one-of-a-kind experience for those who attend Burlington’s New Year’s Eve Highlight celebration. The Bright Idea Project seeks events, art installations, and performances that connect the community as Vermonters welcome in the new year. Learn more and Propose an Idea.
How it Works:
The Bright Idea Project solicits idea proposals from artists, musicians, and other creatives from around Vermont from May to mid-August. Ideas are reviewed by committee and selectees are awarded up to $10,000 to develop their project. The Burlington City Arts, Signal Kitchen, and Highlight offer production, planning, permitting, and promotional support. By December 31, all projects are complete and in place for an unforgettable New Year’s Eve. Learn more.
About the Partnership:
In 2018, The Bright Idea Project sprung to life, bringing with it a New Year’s Eve celebration that attracted over 6,000 people with 35 events held at 20 venues across Burlington. Through the Bright Idea Project, VSECU is powering the inspiring process behind the annual Highlight event on December 31. We help with funding and by helping to select the talent who will shape the New Year’s Eve experience.
