Point to Point

Powering an Event that Reduces Hunger in Vermont

Hunger is a problem in Vermont communities. In fact, a study conducted in 2014 found that 76% of Vermont households are food insecure. Launched in 2002 by Harpoon Brewery, the Point to Point charity cycling event raised more than 1.5 million in funds by 2018 and increased awareness for the Vermont Foodbank’s mission to end the growing problem of hunger in local communities. With the goal of making a greater impact, reaching more people, and continuing to raise funds for this urgent need, VSECU accepted leadership of the Point to Point in 2017 and beyond. The event is now open to cyclists and runners of all ages. Learn more about the Point to Point.

Who it Helps:

By supporting the Vermont Foodbank, the Point to Point helps Vermonters who are food insecure. The mission of the foodbank is “to gather and share quality food and nurture partnerships so that no one in Vermont will go hungry.” They gather food from gleaning programs and through food donations, distribute food around the state, and support programs that help low-income Vermonters gain access to food and more. How it Works:

The Point to Point is a cycling and running event that attracts people from Vermont, other states in the region, and beyond. This fully supported event brings people together with the purpose of having fun while raising funds and offering much needed aid to Vermont communities. People can participate in the event by riding or running, volunteering their time, coming to the event to cheer on the participants, or simply by donating. Learn more.

About the Partnership:

As a part of our longstanding commitment to the Vermont Foodbank, we have provided them with corporate sponsorship and volunteer time, and supported staff riders at the Point to Point since 2010. In 2017, we were presented with the opportunity to take ownership of the Point to Point, which has become a beloved community event. We saw this as a chance to further deepen our relationship with the Vermont Foodbank and build on our commitment to meeting the essential needs of Vermonters.
