Network Administrator

Basic Job Function:

The VSECU Network Administrator is responsible for planning, implementing and administering the credit union network, communication and applications infrastructure to provide a wide range of computer services for internal and external users and managing special projects.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Plan, develop and manage projects to support the credit union network, hardware, and software to provide secure and accurate information and operations for a number of member electronic products and to support the internal infrastructure to manage and maintain data and transactions.

Maintain, configure and troubleshoot the Wide Area Network, including establishing new connections, coordinating installations, upgrades and regular maintenance.

Maintain, configure and troubleshoot servers and appliances, and develop standards for those platforms.

Install hardware and software to meet demands for increased usage, new applications and changing needs for business departments and to serve members with secure and accurate electronic access. Perform compatibility testing for hardware and software.

New project design, development and documentation, including analysis, research, testing, information, and recommendations for technology and cost.

Plan and implement devices to protect and secure data, access and functions, including virus protection, backup systems, and security measures for hardware and software. Participate in planning, documenting and testing procedures for disaster recovery.

Establish relationships and work with current and potential vendors to deal with regular operations, changes, new products and projects.

Assist with budget development, preparing requests for proposals, training and other department projects and provide back-up coverage as needed.

Stay abreast of new developments in technology, networking and communication developments and financial institution products. Research and consult on new trends and products.

Perform additional duties as assigned.

Education/Knowledge and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in a technology field preferred and MCSE or other industry certification desirable with four to six years information systems administration experience in a corporate environment or a comparable combination of education and experience.

Excellent knowledge of networking, software and hardware, systems and products.

Knowledge and experience related to system architecture, language and programming, networking and data system management.

Knowledge of financial software and systems.

Working Conditions:

This position requires a wide range of physical efforts including working at a desk station performing standard keyboard functions and repeated motion. Physical effort also includes lifting up to fifty pounds, stretching, reaching, standing, bending and other movement when performing activities related to installing or troubleshooting network and hardware. Proper measures should be exercised to avoid ergonomic or other injury from repetitive motion, lifting or other physical efforts. Stretching breaks are required to avoid injury.

This position requires after hours support.
