Basic Job Function

The VSECU Teller I serve members by performing financial transactions, providing information and are responsible for maintaining accurate records and balanced funds. This is a part time position.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Serve members by handling deposit, withdrawal, transfer and loan payment transactions and providing information about current balances for savings, checking, certificate of deposits, IRA’s and other VSECU accounts and at times open secondary deposit accounts.

Respond to member inquiries about products and services, rates and options. Explain the use of various services and products to access and utilize accounts, including: electronic banking, ATM, credit/debit cards, traveler’s checks and money orders, cashier checks, and savings bonds.

Perform Teller duties at the front walk-up area, at a drive-through window, at a Branch RTS station or PTM’s. Must be able to handle transactions at any station or location and assignments may vary according to the position held and location.

Maintain an accurately balanced Teller station, including the cash drawer, checks, and daily transaction records. Take measures to track and balance funds throughout the day. Perform closing balancing and maintain contact with the Accounting and/or Account Servicing Department regarding unusual situations.

Buy and sell funds to the vault as needed to maintain appropriate fund levels for transacting routine duties.

Comply with VSECU policies and practices related to assigned duties and with Vermont and federal regulations regarding monetary transactions and reporting requirements, such as Suspicious Activity Report, Patriot Act, Bank Secrecy Act, and Truth in Savings. Maintain strict confidentiality practices for the protection and care of members.

Perform routine tasks such as filing, pulling closed account cards, count coins and cash and prepare for shipment, stock forms, brochures and supplies, organize and tidy work areas, and other duties assigned by the Head Teller or Branch Manager.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Education/Knowledge and Experience:

High school diploma with math or accounting and computer coursework preferred, and experience working in a customer service environment, preferably including performing financial transactions or a comparable combination of education and experience.

Good customer service skills and ability to handle money and perform basic balancing tasks.

Basic computer skills, including Microsoft products.

Job Competencies:

Basic knowledge and understanding of credit union products and services.

Ability to communicate in a positive, polite, and helpful manner and to respond appropriately to member needs and requests with a wide range of individuals, including difficult and angry members.

Ability to maintain a record of accurate balancing at least 80% of days worked.

Ability to identify opportunities for cross-selling products and services to benefit members.

Conscientious and appropriate with appearance and behavior that fits a professional setting.

Ability to work cooperatively and take initiative to seek and identify opportunities for increased efficiency in the teller area and ability to work efficiently and quickly in a fast paced environment.

Ability to work overtime to achieve end of day balancing or when department needs require extra effort.

Working Conditions:

This position requires standing and/or sitting for long periods of time and working primarily at a teller workstation with remote technology that includes pneumatic tube handling or direct transactions with members at a teller station that requires standing and stretching. Daily tasks include handling and counting money, extensive use of a computer performing standard keyboard functions, requiring repeat motion. This job requires lifting of coins and teller drawers, up to 30 pounds. Stretching breaks are required to avoid injury.
